There are three ways: (1) Drag and drop .md files onto the MarkDrop window, (2) Right-click any .md file in Finder and select "Convert with MarkDrop" from the Services menu, or (3) Copy Markdown text and use the Paste from Clipboard button in the app.

No. All conversion happens locally on your Mac. Your files never leave your machine. The only exception is if you choose to upload to Google Docs (Pro feature) — and that's always your choice.

Make sure MarkDrop has been launched at least once - macOS only registers the Service after the app runs. Then right-click a .md file in Finder and look under the Services submenu for "Convert with MarkDrop". If it still doesn't appear, open System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Services > Files and Folders, and make sure "Convert with MarkDrop" is checked. New Services are unchecked by default.
